[Eril-l] EXTERNAL: Managing asset links to proxied resources in LibGuides

Hi Tony (and all),

Since you mentioned OpenAthens, thought I'd jump in to note that the
LibGuides proxy setting doesn't always work for resources that authenticate
with OpenAthens. LibGuides requires database links to start with http:// or
https://, but links that use the OpenAthens redirector are supposed to be
encoded--some work fine without being encoded, but some need to be to work
properly. So if you are using your institution's OpenAthens Redirector
prefix as the proxy URL in LibGuides, the URL you put into a database
entry may need to start with http%3A%2F%2F, which causes an error.
Furthermore, there are some resources that aren't compatible with the
Redirector and require links with a different format, so you can't use the
LibGuides proxy setting for those, either. We haven't found this to be a
big issue, but it's something to be aware of if you're considering a switch
from EZProxy to OpenAthens.
