<div dir="ltr">Hi Tony (and all),<div><br></div><div>Since you mentioned OpenAthens, thought I'd jump in to note that the LibGuides proxy setting doesn't always work for resources that authenticate with OpenAthens. LibGuides requires database links to start with http:// or https://, but links that use the OpenAthens redirector are supposed to be encoded--some work fine without being encoded, but some need to be to work properly. So if you are using your institution's OpenAthens Redirector prefix as the proxy URL in LibGuides, the URL you put into a database entry may need to start with http%3A%2F%2F, which causes an error. Furthermore, there are some resources that aren't compatible with the Redirector and require links with a different format, so you can't use the LibGuides proxy setting for those, either. We haven't found this to be a big issue, but it's something to be aware of if you're considering a switch from EZProxy to OpenAthens.</div><div><br></div><div>Katherine</div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Fri, Jun 23, 2023 at 9:08 AM Electronic Resources in Libraries discussion list via Eril-l <<a href="mailto:eril-l@lists.eril-l.org">eril-l@lists.eril-l.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div class="msg-5663309188833810012">

We try to use LibGuides "link" assets, and centralize the proxy server. One reason for this is that if you ever change the proxy server you only have to change the information in one place -- yes, you can do search-and-replace to find earlier instances of
the proxy server, but it's a pain. A second reason is that LibGuides' asset checker DOES NOT check URLs in the raw HTML sections, only URLs in its asset category. A third reason is that one can re-use asset links elsewhere in LibGuides, and then all your
statistics are nicely collected in one place.</div>

<b>Subject:</b> EXTERNAL:[Eril-l] Managing asset links to proxied resources in LibGuides</font>

<div dir="ltr">Hello,
<div>We are considering the functionality in LibGuides to set our proxy information at the system-wide level, so that anytime we enter new assets, we'd put in non-proxied links and then select "Yes" for "Use Proxy?" </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>We haven't used this method in the past - instead staff generally just copies and pastes URLs directly into Link URL. It's my impression that centralizing this might make it easier to manage links going forward if anything should change with our proxy. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I'm curious how other folks using LibGuides manage this option of either centralizing proxy info or just including proxied links in entering assets. One concern I have is how to train staff on "unproxying" links - like if they are linking to a proxied
resource, will that be an annoying extra step to have to remember to take out the proxy info?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Welcome any feedback on this wildly exciting topic :) </div>
