[Eril-l] E-book budgets

Hi Sarah,

We don't differentiate by format, but by continuity. So one-time ebook orders come out of the same fund as a department's physical book orders. The initial allocations are determined by a mix of factors, including: number of majors, credit hours, faculty FTE, and average book cost from the previous year. But we're not a research university so we don't take publishing into account.

So a department that's heavily invested in ebooks might, depending on the subject, drive up their average book cost. But the other factors mean that it doesn't weight things too much in their favor.

Happy to answer further questions, if you'd like more info.

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone in an academic library can share how they allocate their e-book budget. We would like to allocate a percentage of our e-book budget to each faculty and then they can use it to purchase faculty publications, student recommendations, and faculty requests as they see fit. I think it makes sense to allocate the most money to the largest faculty, but I'm not sure if it is that simple. Our education faculty publishes the most e-books, so should they get a higher allocation to buy faculty publications? Should it be based on which faculty typically has the most expensive e-books?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Sarah
