Head of Collections and Content Strategies
Ohio University Libraries seek applications for the position of Head of Collections & Content Strategies. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Collections & Digitization Strategies, the Head of Collections and Content Strategies oversees the work of 6 staff and promotes an inclusive, collaborative, and healthy work environment. The Collections and Content Strategies staff are responsible for collections assessment, stacks management, management of the Southeast Ohio Regional Depository, and promoting practices that support the Libraries' commitment to incorporating social justice into our decision-making processes for both general and specialized collections.  The Head of Collections and Content Strategies helps to guide all library functions related to collections, including assessment and physical management, such as data gathering, data analysis, print retention programs, and collaborating in statewide initiatives for collections and regional depositories.  The person in this position will work closely with staff within the Collections & Digitization Strategies portfolio, department heads, subject liaisons, and other staff to ensure the effective and timely processes and encourages innovation that results in user benefits.  This position also communicates directly with faculty, students, and staff in other units to resolve problems, foster relationships, advance projects, and improve services.  Through this role, the successful candidate will help the Libraries confront institutional bias and structural racism to make demonstrable progress toward diverse collections, equitable services and inclusive practices.



Specifically, the Head of Collections and Content Strategies:

  *   Manages, supervises and sets goals and oversees the activities of Collections and Content Strategies staff and participates where appropriate.

  *   Manages the operations of the Southeast Ohio Regional Depository (SEORD), works closely with the Libraries' facilities manager on issues pertaining to the building, and represents SEORD on depository committees.
  *   Manages the analysis and presentation of collections data, including holdings data, standardized COUNTER and other usage data, collections strengths and gaps, cost value comparisons, and longitudinal data; will develop best practices, design customized data sets, reports, and data visualizations.
  *   Coordinates preparation of all collections-related internal and external reports as requested (e.g., annual reports; American Research Libraries (ARL), Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), etc).
  *   Facilitates and supports collection-related projects and initiatives across all libraries including print retention, and de-accessioning; work with subject liaisons and other University departments to review collections data to determine how well our collections represent diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives, and how well our collections serve the needs of our diverse campus communities and constituents.
  *   Coordinates internal data management activities with other departments, with a primary focus on collections, within the Library as well as with Library partners and campus partners; participates in events that promote the discovery, analysis and visualization of data.
  *   Identifies trends and best practices for collections management and implements new processes with the objective of ensuring the best user experience.
  *   Serves as the coordinator of the Federal Depository Library Program, managing and ensuring compliance for the government documents state and federal depository collections. Oversees the management of materials donations to the general collections.
  *   Attends all staff meetings, participates in special projects and serves on the Collections Team and other library, University, and consortia committees, as assigned.
  *   Engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional and national associations as part of the continuing commitment to bring best practices and innovative services to Ohio University students and faculty.

Qualifications

  *   Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school.
  *   Progressively responsible experience in the area of collection management and analysis.
  *   Successful supervisory experience.
  *   Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity and the importance of inclusion as shown by a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization.
  *   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  *   Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to data-informed decision-making processes.
  *   Demonstrated experience with tools and applications used in data gathering, manipulation, remediation, normalization, analysis, and visualization.



Preferred

  *   Minimum of one year experience in academic research libraries.
  *   Familiarity with trends in scholarly communication.
  *   Experience leading diverse teams and fostering collaborative relationships.
  *   Experience working in a consortial environment.
  *   Experience working in a unionized environment.
