[Eril-l] Important Changes to Your USP-NF Online Subscription

Hello ERIL members.

For any libraries that subscribe to United States Pharmacopeial Convention’s USP-NF Online service (http://www.uspnf.com/), have you received the notice below, and what is your approach going to be?

The news that they were going to drop their IP-authenticated access in March was not news to me, but no indication was given that their old, what-we-had-prior-to-5-years-ago username-and-password access was going away. The notice below is the first I’m hearing about a further change on May 1st involving Subscription Keys and user administration. Twenty users per Subscription Key isn’t going to work for a larger institution like us, whose users also change semester after semester. I’m trying to find out what this …

… will entail, other than the obvious (Hey Dan, or someone else, administer users), and what extra dollar costs might be involved. Has anyone found this out?

Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.

REMINDER: Below are important details on how to prepare your company for the transition to USP–NF Subscription Keys

You are receiving this e-mail to inform you of the upcoming changes to the USP–NF Online. USP is launching a new subscription model starting on March 5th, 2018 transforming the way you will access and experience your USP–NF Online subscription. On March 5th, 2018, USP will send you instructions on how to obtain your unique USP–NF Subscription Key from the www.uspnf.com<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ft3072967.icpro.co%2Ftrack.aspx%3Fid%3D460%7C2EE3C7%7C4E38%7CA753%7C4B1%7C0%7C477%7C1%7C6BD9768E%26destination%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.uspnf.com%252f%26dchk%3D23323F5B&data=02%7C01%7Cjean.choi%40senecacollege.ca%7C72af569da1b24d18902008d5786a5e1d%7Ceb34f74a58e74a8b9e59433e4c412757%7C0%7C0%7C636547320602131049&sdata=viHiiEwncu5NA0w2uf%2FayMmbJvHUnIz2OFsUdweRWNk%3D&reserved=0> website for each current USP–NF Online subscription that your company owns (see image below). This Subscription Key will be required for current customers to migrate to the new USP–NF Online platform that launches on May 1st, 2018.

Companies will have a choice on how to register end-users in Access Point.

A.   If a user knows their company username and password they can obtain the subscription key and associate it to their Access Point account. B.   OR if your company has a designee that manages subscriptions, and you anticipate having more than 60 end-users to manage, please have them contact uspnf-info at usp.org<mailto:uspnf-info at usp.org?subject=USP-NF%20Inquiry> to learn more about our System Administration Management Tool (Admin Tool). Please take into consideration the following:

  *   As a System Administrator, you are responsible for sharing this USP–NF Subscription Key with your company’s end-users.
  *   To help ease your transition into the new USP–NF Online platform, for every concurrent license that your company owns, you will have the ability to associate up to twenty (20) individual Access Point accounts. For example, if your USP–NF Online subscription is for two (2) concurrent licenses, you will receive one (1) USP–NF Subscription Key that will allow you to associate up to forty (40) Access Point accounts.
  *   If you have multiple USP–NF Online subscriptions with different expiration dates, please contact uspnf-info at usp.org<mailto:uspnf-info at usp.org>.

Starting on March 5th, end-users will have a choice to login to the USP–NF Online with their current company-wide shared username and password or their Access Point account credentials. See the image below to see how the login page for the USP–NF Online will look beginning on March 5th:

For your reference, below are some key terms/definitions:

What is the new online subscription model?

To provide users with an individualized online experience, USP is moving away from companywide shared usernames and passwords to individual Access Point accounts that are associated with Subscription Keys.

What is an Access Point account?

Access Point is the USP system that provides user authentication and authorization. All users of USP online resources must create an Access Point account which only needs to be created one time.

What is a Subscription Key?

A Subscription Key is an 8-character alphanumeric code that is unique to each customer, and is specific to each USP Online subscription. Subscription keys are valid for the term of the subscription – one (1) year in the case of the USP–NF Online. Subscription keys are associated with Access Point accounts to enable users to access paid USP Online resources.
