[Eril-l] BrowZine

Whenever I read threads like these it makes me realize just how bad many of our vendors are, and the terrible service we put up with as a profession. The bar is very low and it doesn’t take much to impress us.
That being said, I agree that ThirdIron is one of the good ones. Every time Proquest sends out one of their creepy, stock-image laden update emails I’m nervous they are going to announce that they bought up another one of the good guys . Stay gold, ThirdIron, Kanopy, Privco, …
(sorry to derail)

I also agree that their customer service is excellent. It's very personal, very "small company eager to please customers" and still at the stage where they can make changes very quickly. For instance, right after the web interface came out, one of our librarians noticed that some aspect of how they used color/links on one screen was confusing, and when I contacted them they agreed on the spot and changed it within literally hours!

I’m glad Steve brought up Third Iron’s customer service. I completely agree that they are excellent.

As others have noted, up ’til now, usage figures have been disappointing. However, like Texas A&M, we feel this product needs more time to get traction with our users (we are in our second year of subscribing to it). Whenever I’ve demo’d it, it has elicited a wow kind of reaction. I think it needs more promotion, though. In addition, we, too signed on for BrowZine Web and I think that will greatly help with use.
One other point I’d make is that Third Iron, the maker of BrowZine, has offered excellent customer support for us and has actively listened to and in some cases followed our advice for improvements. My impression is of a small but very responsive and engaged operation.

We are one of the earliest customers. Very little use that we know of (they haven't figured out usage data and COUNTER doesn't make much sense for this product), but they just released the new web interface and within the next month or two are going to add the "My bookshelf" to that interface, and so we expect a big increase after that and are making more of an effort to publicize it than before.
With those features it suddenly becomes useful to everyone, not just iOS and Android users.
Ask again in December and you'll probably get very different answers.

Would anyone with BrowZine at their institution be willing to tell me their assessment of the product? Is there a good amount of usage? Have students and faculty adopted it as a good tool?
Thanks!
