Hi Sara and Kris,

Thank you both for testing and sharing what you've been seeing with De Gruyter access! I do have tickets open with them, and they have said that refreshing the browser should clear the error (as you experienced, Sara), but that hasn't worked for us.  Sigh. : ( Kris, I hope they can get the search error cleared up quickly!

Call for ACRL Technical Services Interest Group Incoming Convener 2026

The ACRL Technical Services Interest Group (TSIG) is seeking a volunteer to
serve as the Incoming Convener (2026-2027) / Convener (2027-2028). This
position serves a two-year term and is responsible for planning and
facilitating a conference session at or adjacent to ALA Annual Conferences,
organizing additional programming during the year, and communicating group
activities. Annual Conference attendance is strongly encouraged.

The charge of the TSIG is "to provide a broad framework for information
exchange on current developments and activities related to technical
services including, but not limited to, collection development, collection
management, acquisitions, metadata services and resource discovery and
delivery in academic libraries; To develop programs and foster and sponsor
education and training opportunities that contribute to and enhance an
understanding of acquisitions, metadata services and resource discovery and
delivery in academic libraries; To better connect technical services

Like many of you, I have spent countless hours manually clicking through proxy links just to make sure our databases are actually working for students off-campus. There is nothing more frustrating than finding out a vendor changed their platform or an authentication stanza broke only after a stressed student submits a helpdesk ticket from home.
Working in an academic library setting, I finally got tired of the manual clicking and decided to build something to automate this daily grind. I?m calling it LibPages Lighthouse.
It essentially acts as an automated staff member. It logs in and verifies access exactly like a patron would, catching outages proactively.
I have attached a quick demo video to this email so you can see exactly how it works under the hood. In the demo, you can watch the agent run, navigate a proxy login, validate access for a couple of publishers (AIP and BMJ), and update the dashboard.
Here is a quick look at how it fits into our specific library workflows:

Off-Campus & Proxy Validation: Lighthouse runs through your EZproxy, OpenAthens or any proxy tool setup to validate that off-campus access is actively working and the vendor page loads. (It can also test direct on-campus IP access).

Publisher-Friendly & Lightweight: To simulate normal patron usage, it only runs once a day per resource. There is no web scraping and zero unnecessary file downloads?it strictly asserts that the authentication was successful and the resource is up.
  *
Flexible Execution: You run the testing agent directly from your managed off-campus network or a designated PC, meaning the traffic looks completely normal to vendors.
  *
Subscription Tracking: I added a feature to attach expiry dates to specific publisher tests, so it notifies you before a subscription lapses.

While I am launching this as a commercial SaaS platform, right now I am looking for a few fellow library folks to be early adopters. I would love for you to test it out on your proxy setup and give me some honest feedback. Hello,

I'm posting from the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries. We are wondering if any other libraries are experiencing access issues with the De Gruyter Brill platform?

For going on 3 weeks, when we try to access from any of our authenticated IP ranges, or via Seamless Access, we receive a server error like this:

If we are outside our IP ranges and go to the De Gruyter Brill platform, we are able to access Open Access ebooks just fine.

De Gruyter technical support is aware of the problem and is working on it (they advise that refreshing the page fixes the server error, but that has not worked for us), but due to the persistence and length of this issue, we're wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar error with De Gruyter Brill and has any suggestions on a solution?

I just checked and we can access titles through direct links, but any searches we try to do on the degruyterbrill platform itself results in a "Mac challenge attempts exceeded. Please refresh the page to try again!" error. I'm going to contact support, as well.
