Because the platforms are idiosyncratic, I doubt that there is a more efficient way. For those platforms that provide stats from an admin interface (that is, the same URL, the same form fields, the same POST/GET HTTP process), then there may be a way to program a script that scrapes the data, but that's a lot of if's. About half of our non-COUNTER platforms require us to send emails (which could be automated, but that would only save a few minutes), and then waiting, waiting, waiting for a response. You may be able to program your email to dump the file in a folder, which could help with a programmatic solution.

My point is, perhaps with some work to identify the patterns (platforms with downloadable files, platforms that require emailing, send files with consistent file names, etc.), you may be able to write some code that can help, but I'm not sure the benefit would be worth the cost of time. In addition, it may be worth keeping track of the time that is spent on these, and calculating the value of gathering the data - e.g., only if the cost or usage meets a certain threshold. This could be used as talking points with the vendors, especially if they are interested in your library continuing the subscription.

I have heard that Celus will collect certain nonCOUNTER stats - you may be able to justify the cost of the service with the staff time saved for all usage stats collection.

To clarify, I'm not looking for specific instructions on how to gather stats from specific vendors; I'm looking to see if anyone has developed a process/workflow/etc. to gather stats from these vendors in a more efficient way.

If you would like an example, I'm looking at Insider Intelligence and some other business databases that are non-COUNTER.

The point of COUNTER is to standardize the definitions of what the metrics are, how they are counted, etc. so we can use them and talk about how we use them reliably.

By definition, non-COUNTER metrics are idiosyncratic, so it's impossible to provide what you want without knowing the particular vendor and usage data being assessed.
Don't be afraid to name "brand names" on the list.

Hello, everyone!

I am looking for resources, ideas, or methods of assessing non-COUNTER-compliant usage for electronic resources. I'm having a little trouble finding exactly what I need, so I come to plead with all of you! Any help, hint, or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! Have a wonderful Friday!
