Position Focus:

The Yale Library's Assessment and User Experience Research team harnesses user research and analytics, aiding library departments and leadership in advancing the University's research, teaching, and learning objectives. The Assessment and Collections Analysis Librarian plays a pivotal role in this mission by sourcing and integrating collections data across diverse mediums. This ensures the data's quality and relevance as part of our comprehensive collection assessment program.



Positioned at the crossroads of user-centric focus and data-driven analysis, this role involves active engagement in projects and processes that bolster our general and special library collections. A key responsibility includes orchestrating data collection, research, and documentation. This systematic approach provides a foundation for evidence-backed decision-making, aligning with the library’s strategic goals around library collections and user needs.



Essential Duties:

The individual in this role will:

·         Support the Yale Library assessment and analytics program.

·         Collect, analyze, manage, and report quantitative and qualitative data and usage statistics for collections resources.

·         Support workflows and help develop and enhance automatic processes for capturing, storing, and delivering collections data.

·         Analyze and assess the value and impact of open access and transformative agreements on collections.

·         Works on projects that require in-depth analysis of data.

·         Engage with peer colleagues at other institutions, such as the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation, in collaborative collection analysis efforts supporting collective collections.

·         Supports library departments and administrators to develop methods to determine how well our collections represent diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives and how effectively the collections serve the needs of diverse campus communities and constituents.

Required Education and Experience:

1.      Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school. A post-graduate degree in a related discipline may be required or substituted for a master’s degree in library science.

2.      Two years of professional library experience is preferred.

Required Skills / Abilities:

1.      Ability to read, analyze, and understand data in various formats.

2.      Demonstrated knowledge of SQL and relational database design and programming.

3.      Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

4.      Ability to manage projects, set and adjust priorities, work under pressure, be thorough and accurate, follow tasks through to completion, meet deadlines, and work independently.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

1.      Coursework in quantitative or data visualization fields such as applied statistics, data science, or business analytics.

2.      Experience using data analysis applications such as R, SPSS, SAS, Tableau, and Microsoft Power Pivot.

3.      Familiarity with library collection management standards and tools, such as reporting modules within integrated library systems and digital repositories like Project COUNTER.

This position will be assigned a rank of Librarian 1 (Grade 23) to Librarian 3 (Grade 25).
