MONOGRAPHIC ACQUISITIONS COORDINATOR
Librarian (PLB1-3A) or Specialist Librarian (PLB2-4A)

Position Description: Reporting to the Head, Acquisitions, the Monographic Acquisitions Coordinator provides leadership and supervision in acquiring and managing information resources in several formats to support the success of teaching and research at the University of Iowa. This position is responsible for developing acquisitions policies and procedures; creating and maintaining positive vendor relationships; monitoring approval plans and Library of Congress Cooperative Acquisitions Programs (LC CAP); and overseeing gift receipts and processing. This position provides strategic leadership and coordinates day-to-day activities including personnel management and setting and communicating unit priorities. This position supervises staff and works closely with collection management, electronic resources/serials, cataloging-metadata, and finance department colleagues.
Specific responsibilities and duties include:

*         Serves as the Library's primary contact for monographic vendors (includes electronic demand-driven acquisitions and approval plan management), and publisher representatives.

*         Oversees daily processes and activities of a staff performing procurement, gift processing, and invoice preparation.

*         Develops policies, procedures, and workflows to achieve greater efficiencies and improve customer service, including integrating workflows with other departments.

*         Provides effective and timely supervision of staff including training and performance management.

*         Manages orders and communication associated with the following programs: 1) Newly promoted and tenured faculty recognition, 2) Memorial, donation, and volunteer bookplates.

*         Facilitates departmental communication with colleagues across units including other technical services staff and subject specialists.

*         Maintains current knowledge and awareness of library trends and best practices relative to materials acquisitions.

*         Represents the department and the Libraries throughout the University and at state, regional, and national levels.

*         Contributes to the profession through service, research, publishing, and/or teaching.

*         Participates in committees, task forces, and working groups.
Required Education and Experience

*         To qualify at the Librarian level: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science and demonstrated interest in professional development.

*         To qualify at the Specialist Librarian level: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science, two or more years of professional experience, and demonstrated involvement in professional development.

*         Demonstrated understanding of acquisitions processes and technology, including integrated library systems (ILS) and vendor databases.

*         Demonstrated ability to assess, develop and implement new workflow efficiencies.

*         Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork with librarians and library staff.

*         Knowledge of collection management practices and trends.

*         Evidence of advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

*         Demonstrated interpersonal skills; evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.

*         Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.

*         Demonstrated understanding of the mission and functions of a large research library.


Desired Qualifications

*         Managerial experience, supervising and organizing the work of others.

*         Experience overseeing approval plans.

*         Knowledge of budgets and statistical reporting.

*         Familiarity with cataloging principles and practices.

*         Experience with GOBI or similar approval plan vendors.

*         Experience with Ex Libris Alma.

*         Bibliographic knowledge of one or more languages other than English.

Salary and appointment: Start date is negotiable. Appointment will be made at the Librarian (I) or Specialist Librarian (II) level. Salary ranges: Librarian $47,500-$49,500 or Specialist Librarian $50,000 - $65,000.
