[Eril-l] Loss of Perpetual Access access to previously subscribed Wiley titles ... since ? platform change

Hi, everybody.

I don’t know if our issue is related to yours, but we’ve had problems with Wiley’s ebook title list on record for a long, long time – way back in 2011, titles started showing up as accessible that we had no record of purchasing. They showed up on the title list we downloaded from the admin interface; when we asked our rep about the unexplained access, he repeatedly said that if they were on that list, we should have access. When we lost access to one of those titles, eal at wiley.com<mailto:eal at wiley.com> tech support said they could find no record of payment, and access stayed off, despite submitting that Wiley-generated title list to them. We didn’t bother to fight it, because we couldn’t find payment either. By 2014 or so, the list of mystery ebooks had grown so long, and Wiley remained so disinterested in tracking down what was happening, that we wound up loading the MARC for these titles to our catalog, but labeling them separately as being of uncertain origin, because we were tired of repeatedly asking and getting nowhere.

We started the UBCM model in… 2015 or ‘16? And at the end of that year, they sent us the title list of the usage statistics, including a column marking off which we had perpetual access to already. Y’all, it was missing most of our PA holdings. We’ve been trying to get this fixed ever since, and only just this week have we received word that they think they’ve updated it properly.

I suspect that the same long-running recordkeeping problem that we’ve experienced might have been happening to others; the switch to the UBCM model revealed its extent for us, but maybe it’s the migration that’s revealing it now for others.

(Our journals experts have also mentioned that they’re having problems with the new platform, but I don’t know the details of it. They described it as “how Wiley has been handling – or rather, not handling – journals holdings”, in the brief note I read. That could mean loss of access; I’ll ask.)

We're noticing the same thing, and it is really useful to hear this is happening to others as well. I was wondering in our case if it might also be related to updating to an "enhanced" license agreement from the previous basic agreement.

Hello Will,
thanks for letting me know that you all also have *just* lost PA access since the platform switch .... Sad to say, it was my rep I tried first ... but getting not much help there (or that I can tell).
If (or, when !!) you get a resolution, do please let me know.
If (or, when ?!) someone from support finally contacts me, I will now definitely also mention your institution as being an example of another library possibly/probably suffering the same type of problem.
Thanks, Sara
PS Good luck!

Hi Sara,

Duke University has lost access to some of our perpetual access Wiley titles as well (just since the platform change). I have been working with our Wiley rep concerning this problem since last week. I’ll let you know when we find a resolution.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am wondering whether anyone else is experiencing the following ....

We have a lot of Wiley titles that we previously subscribed to ... after a major e-journal review we cancelled quite a few Wiley titles at the end of 2016 .... in 2017 I established our PA coverage and set our link resolver (SFX) coverage accordingly ....

Now, since roughly when Wiley migrated platforms (towards the end of March 2018), I have been getting reports from users of no access for various Wiley titles ... access we should have based on our PA rights to paid content ... and then I also spot checked other non-renewed titles with PA rights' access .... and find that they too no longer show that we have the access we should have.

I cannot be sure it has anything to do with the platform switch, but if not it does seem like an odd coincidence.

Naturally I have contacted Wiley .... but so far I have gotten no where ....

Now I am wondering whether it is just us, or ....
Thanks, Sara
