[Eril-l] request for examples of libraries almost entirely non-firm ordering, print and e

Does anybody have a DDA ebook platform they actually like, they can teach to students and the students like it too?

We have a consortial DDA on one platform and some old ebooks on another platform that does DDA, they’re both “not great” to use. I know it’s partially because of the book publishers not the vendors, but we are spoiled by Springer with the unrestricted PDF downloads of chapters or whole books.

A few years ago I had to excessively apologize to the research assistant of the wife of a former U.S. Vice President (on our Board of Trustees) over how bad the DDA ebook platform was -- the problems continue in its new home.

I know of one person who likes the DDA platform, a professor who likes putting things on his bookshelf. Everybody else doesn’t like it, doesn’t want to use it, so nobody remembers how to use it either. It doesn’t work with our WAM proxy, doesn’t work well with Apple products which is what the kids use mainly here, so restricted in use, doesn’t update MARC records often enough so we get false hits in the catalog, etc.

So I’d like to hear any positive comments on specific platforms.

Thanks,
