Electronic Resources Librarian
The Ohio University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for an energetic, inquisitive and collaborative professional to manage the life cycle of electronic resources. The successful candidate will bring flexibility and creative thinking into their responsibilities to ensure the licensed electronic resources support the teaching and research activities of the university, and enhance the Libraries as a "dynamic gateway for the discovery, creation and exchange of knowledge, which enables students, faculty and staff to realize their promise and to achieve excellence."
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions and Collections Services, the Electronic Resources Librarian will manage the life cycle processes for electronic resources and serves as the expert resource for issues related to these processes within the Department and throughout the Libraries. Duties include working with subject librarians in identifying electronic resources for consideration; acquiring and activating new electronic resources; assisting with license and pricing negotiations; troubleshooting access issues; and managing renewals and cancellations. The successful candidate will participate in interdepartmental teams to manage projects and develop new methods of acquiring and maintaining electronic resources; maintain library systems pertaining to electronic resources; oversee the work of two Library Support Specialists; interact with publishers, vendors and aggregators; and gather, organize and disseminate usage statistics. The person in this role will be expected to engage in professional development, and will provide leadership in developing and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to the acquisition, licensing, access, and usage of electronic resources.
Specifically, the Electronic Resources Librarian:
* Organizes, participates in and oversees the processes for acquiring new electronic resources, communicating with vendors, publishers and aggregators to request quotes, organize trials, place new orders, and activate newly acquired resources.
* Participates in negotiating license agreements.
* Maintains data in library and third-party systems pertaining to electronic resources: the integrated library system (ILS), electronic resources management system (ERMS), MARC records provider system, and link resolver. Maintains data in and administers the library's discovery service.
* Without direct supervisory responsibility, oversees and guides the work of two Library Support Specialists who each devote 40-50% time to assisting with managing electronic resources. Organizes, sets goals, and reviews the Library Support Specialists' associated day-to-day and project work.
* Organizes, participates in and oversees processes for troubleshooting access issues, and processing renewals and cancellations.
* Uses third-party and vendor systems to gather usage statistics; organizes usage statistics to enhance usability; disseminates usage statistics to stakeholders in the library and assists in interpreting statistics for assessment purposes.
* Collaborates with departmental staff in developing and recommending policies and procedures to gain efficiencies, maximize the effectiveness of processes, and ensure seamless access to electronic resources.
* Participates in interdepartmental teams to manage projects and develop new methods of acquiring and maintaining electronic resources
* Maintains awareness of emerging trends and technologies for managing electronic resources; engages in regular professional development through research, publications, presentations, and participation in regional and national associations as part of the continuing commitment to bring best practices and innovative services to the Ohio University Libraries.
Qualifications
Required
* A Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution by the negotiated start date.
* Knowledge of current issues in acquiring, licensing, and managing access to electronic resources.
* Experience with an integrated library system.
* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a progressive environment.
* Ability to take a user-centered approach in providing access to electronic resources.
* Ability to exercise creativity and initiative in troubleshooting problems with electronic resources access.
* Strong commitment to quality customer service.
Preferred
* Strong ability to negotiate and maintain electronic resources' licenses and contracts.
* Experience acquiring and managing electronic resources in an academic or research library.
* Experience with Innovative Interfaces' Sierra or Millennium integrated library system.
* Ability to effectively collaborate across departments and divisions on issues related to electronic resources.
* Skill in planning and implementing projects.
* Ability to make decisions independently within the framework of departmental and library policies and goals.
* Experience with an Electronic Resources Management System (ERMS).
* Demonstrated ability to set priorities and exercise flexibility working with multiple assignments in a fast paced environment.
* Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equality, and inclusiveness within Ohio University Libraries and the campus.
