I would check your contract with this publisher for a non-disparagement
clause. If one exists, I would have your university counsel write a letter
to the publisher. I would assume that this might very well be an individual
rep going off-book, because this is terrible behavior- you may want to
forward the mail with all identifying info to your publisher contact if you
have a regional or territorial contact, or any other higher-up. In
addition, I have seen contracts which prohibit exactly this sort of
undermining behavior- requiring that vendors communicate with the library
exclusively regarding subscriptions.

And of course, stand by your decision
