[Eril-l] Ebscohost

I was just talking to our EBSCOhost ebooks rep about this, and she said that they haven’t been able to fix it yet, but that it was a high priority. They realize it’s affecting a lot of us.

We’ve only had reports about Firefox so far, and our workaround has been to use another browser. Here’s a written response we got this morning - originally written to us two weeks ago but apparently eaten by my spam filter at that time >.< , so re-sent today.

“Thanks for your email. This is an issue with the latest version of Firefox, as the recent update to the browser caused this behavior where eBook PDFs are not loading properly. We have a high priority service issue created to track our developers progress in looking into this issue, and I will let you know as soon as I have more information towards a resolution.”

Hi All,

We have been dealing with this issue for a couple of months. There is a work around. Ebsco made some videos for us to share with our patrons.

This is the warning we have on our eBook LibGuides page.

Some web browsers are known to have a hard time recognizing script components in certain eBooks. Because of this, you will need to go through a "load unsafe scripts" protocol. Screen casts are available that illustrate the correct protocol to correct this issue in Firefox<http://screencast.com/t/Ku6y4edTJCP>, Chrome<http://screencast.com/t/Ydp6hgCg> and Internet Explorer<http://screencast.com/t/qZo1ISSRSbH> browsers.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
I found this a few days ago:

Service Issue - EBSCO eBooks in Firefox 45.0
________________________________________
We are investigating a service issue with EBSCO eBooks where PDFs are not loading when using Firefox 45.0. EPUB format is not affected. We apologize for the inconvenience and will update the service issue as soon as more information is available.

ERIL-L

We have noticed a problem with loading some Ebsco eBooks in Ebscohost. There seems to be no one reason but the full text (pdf) are not always loading. The window where the pdf is suppose to appear remains blank. It seemed to happen more often in Firefox on a PC but I also had the same problem in Safari on a Mac. If I hit reload the ebook appears. Last week we had a similar problem with journal titles not appearing in the Ebsco Publication Finder even though they were selected in the knowledgebase. Ebsco support said that they were just slow in loading and sure enough the missing journal title appear the next day. I'm wondering if the two issues are related. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thank you.
