MIN QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution with 1-3 years of post-MLS work experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Discovery Services Librarian oversees the maintenance, development and customization of the Library's search tools through usability testing, extraction and analysis of statistics, and integration of the discovery system with other Library and University online resource applications.

SALARY RANGE
>From $61,280.00 To $91,920.00 Annually

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
-Plans ongoing development, user testing and analysis of the Library's resource discovery systems in a methodical, organized, phased approach.
-Responsible for the design, coordination and support of statistical reports needed for assessing services and resources.
-With the Head of Technical Services, plans, promotes and executes the seamless integration of Library information resources and services into online teaching and research tools via web programming, administration of the Library's discovery service and other Library applications.
-Works collaboratively with Library and University staff and faculty in a variety of units to develop tools and workflows for improving access to the Library's collections.
-Develops applications that promote integration of Library content and services within the course management system.
-Develops custom solutions and designs for Library applications.
-Documents application development, decisions and workflows.
-Trains staff on use and enhanced functionality of discovery systems.
-Demonstrates practical knowledge of library acquisitions and metadata workflows in a largely electronic environment including authority control, metadata schemes, taxonomies, database management and the electronic resource lifecycle.
-Demonstrates strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and customer service skills.
-Demonstrates attention to detail and excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organization skills.
-Collaborates with other staff members on maintaining the Library's web presence.
-Communicates Library interests and contributions in relation to campus-wide technology initiatives (institutional repositories, resource sharing, electronic course management system, content management systems).
-Assists with troubleshooting link resolver issues.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTION:
Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
-Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript; some knowledge of XML and linked data standards.
-Familiarity with library systems including library databases, Electronic Resource Management Systems, EZproxy and Open URL link resolvers.
-Some familiarity with electronic resource standards and protocols such as SUSHI and COUNTER and how these standards interact with library resources and discovery systems.
-Experience conducting user testing.
-Knowledge of metadata workflows.
-Experience with discovery systems, user testing and content management systems.
-Knowledge of collection development and management.
-Interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
