[Eril-l] Creating PDFs with DRM

Thanks, Jessica.

Can you point me to any more info about ProQuest’s DASH service? I can’t seem to find anything on proquest.com.

We have the authentication piece figured out, the problem I’m facing is DRM restrictions on downloading and printing. Do you know if the DASH service can handle that function?

Best,

Lisa

As a temporary solution, our Systems Manager adds PDF ebooks to our proxy server. The link comes out looking like this and requires our patrons to sign in with their campus credentials:

https://libproxy.scu.edu/limited/planetizenguide2015.pdf

If you have ebook collections through ProQuest (e.g., their Academic Complete collection), they'll give you access to their DASH service free of charge, which has the capability to host PDFs behind the proxy.

Subject: [Eril-l] Creating PDFs with DRM

Hello,

We receive proprietary PDFs from a third-party as donations. Rather than incur the expense of printing and binding them to add to the collection, we’d like to provide access electronically. However, the third party wants assurances that we can prevent downloading and printing of the PDFs. So I’m exploring this possibility.

Does anyone have any experience with a way to accomplish this type of protection? I’m thinking there must be a product or platform out there that can take a PDF and provide DRM restrictions to it to limit downloading and printing.

Thanks for your help,

Lisa
