[Eril-l] Wiley Online Library website/downloading issues?

I feel that Wiley customer support doesn't have a unified response to this issue right now. I got a different response from them compared to others. I had reported the issue last week and got the following response today which puts the solution back on OCLC EZProxy. I've now contacted OCLC with the pasted Wiley response just in case that helps.

Based on investigation done on our side, we have seen this same behavior in the past, and the solution is on the institution’s side.

See below for more details:

Issue:
ePDF version not loading while using proxy service. The behavior you are experiencing is related to how the eReader (ePDF) content is handled through your proxy service.

Explanation:
When accessing eReader content, most links are correctly converted into full (absolute) URLs. However, the URL for the PDF renderer JavaScript file is not being updated, as it appears within a text string rather than as a standard script element. Because this URL conversion is handled entirely by your proxy service, there is no change we can make on our side to resolve this behaviour. It is also worth noting that this issue appears to be specific to how the proxy handles eReader (ePDF) content. When testing with a standard PDF (for example, https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com<https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com/>.[proxydomain]/doi/pdf/10.1002/jppr.70061), the file loads correctly through the proxy.

Solution:
To address the issue, your proxy configuration would need to be updated so that its URL rewriting process also detects and converts relative paths found within JavaScript strings, not just those in standard HTML elements.
We recommend sharing this information with your IT team and proxy service provider so they can review and adjust the rewriting rules accordingly.

Glad to hear it is working. I also deem this a temporary fix.

We heard back from Wiley, and they provided the following information:

“This is already in our system and being reviewed by Atypon, as it had been picked up via listservs and other direct customer reports. My understanding is that it may be related to a past issue that had been resolved and folks are checking now if something in a recent release impacted infrastructure and proxy handling to undo that previous resolution.”

Of note, I believe T&F uses the same Atypon system, and that continues to work for us.

Well, it didn't seem to like the Find & Replace directives with the IncludeFile, so I tried adding the entire stanza to the config, plus the directives, and that worked. I see that it is bypassing the EPDF reader entirely, but I guess that's OK for now.

Thanks, Paul. That workaround does not seem to be working for us here. The epdf reader is still not loading for remote users.

FWIW, I have not heard back from Wiley since Thursday about this issue.

OCLC support (case #998529) confirmed they are aware of the issue and that they need to work with Wiley support to resolve it, as nothing can be done on OCLC’s end.

I attempted to move the Wiley stanza to the top of the config file, to no avail.
