I think I might have figured it out.   My empty message sent in Gmail
included a sig file and institutional disclaimer - that might have caused
it to error out.   When I removed it, I discovered that I was already
subscribed to the forum in digest mode.   I wish I could have found that on
the ALA website.   I changed it to individual messages because I haven't
seen any messages from the eforum in a long, long time.

Here are the reminder instructions I got in email - they might help someone
else:
