Core Classroom Event: Project Management for Library Professionals

Dates: October 07-November 1, 2024

Format: Asynchronous content over 4 weeks with 4 60-minute live sessions

Description:

>From new programs and technology initiatives to events and renovations,
library professionals can apply the best practices of project management to
plan for and deliver more successful projects. Attendees will be introduced
to the basic principles of project management and presented with strategies
to rally stakeholders, encourage project momentum, and triumph over common
project challenges. Learn how to apply five key elements of project
management to create an actionable project plan, including identifying the
project’s lifecycle and key stakeholders, drafting a project scope and
schedule, defining project deliverables and quality measures, and preparing
for project justifications and communications. We’ll anticipate project
challenges and discuss strategies for improving the success of our
projects.

Upon completion of this course, students will:

   -

   Identify the phases of a project and common areas of project planning;
   -

   Develop a project plan incorporating scope, schedule, communications,
   quality, and deliverables.
   -

   Apply techniques for engaging stakeholders and improving project
   outcomes.

Technical Requirements for Attendees

The live sessions will be held over Zoom. The participant will need access
to some sort of recording device, whether it be a mobile phone or a sound
recording device or the microphone in the computer.

Presenters:

Jami Yazdani is a management consultant with over 17 years of experience
leading innovative projects and planning initiatives. Jami began her
library career in circulation roles before earning a library degree and has
been a reference librarian, technology librarian, library manager, and
library director. She founded Yazdani Consulting and Facilitation in 2018
to help mission-driven organizations lead more impactful projects, teams,
and planning. Jami is the founder of Consultants for Libraries, a community
directory of consultants working in libraries, museums, and archives, and
has served on the boards of several non-profits and professional
associations in leadership, marketing, programming, and mentoring roles.
She holds Master's degrees in Library and Information Science and
Technology Management and is a certified Project Management Professional
(PMP) and Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM).
