We keep a running list of more complex things we cannot get to when focused on day to day work during the academic year. We will look at our list and pick some to prioritize for summer. Some are externally driven and time sensitive, so have to be prioritized. Since we have a very small tech services staff there are always more potential projects than we can get to. Here are some examples:
*
platform changes required by vendors - e.g., this summer transitioning to the new EBSCO UI, plus some others
*
reviewing and updating our Gobi book alert profiles to align with changes in curriculum (our DDA pool is based on this profile)
*
reviewing and updating libguides relevant to collections, help guides for using e-resources, making sure info for faculty authors on new transformative agreements is available on that libguide, etc.
*
addressing known issues in discovery - we often have identified through individual link problem reports that there are larger root issues with how certain vendors' resources display in our discovery and may not have been able to address those at the time.
*
any new API's or system integrations we may want to implement, either implement or do further research on promising ones for decision on whether to pursue
*
any new opt-in features of our Alma-Primo VE system that we want to consider implementing, either for user discovery, or on the backend to improve efficiency
*
catch up on CE - any webinars or technical services/e-resources trainings we need to attend
*
deduping of e-resource collections if not already done (e.g., we want to avoid a DDA trigger for ebook packages that are newly purchased or subscribed to)
*
review job descriptions and work assignments across team, make adjustments if needed
*
make sure our internal processes documentation is up to date (when staff turnover or are out on extended leave this is invaluable)
*
review relevant policies, update as needed
*
(re)investigate items on the "wish list" we keep for faculty e-resource requests we could not previously provide
*
use our vacation time (our institution will not let us carry over vacation from one year to the next, use it or lose it!)

Annually we check access for all databases & single-title subscriptions – on & off campus, can items be downloaded, etc. This might make a good summer project, so that everything is all set for the start of the school year in the fall. Similarly, checking all links in the EZProxy (if you use it) config file are valid & updating as needed. Updating branding & other configurations on publisher platforms, etc etc. Just a lot of systematically checking & updating everything.
You could also make an annual project out of your use statistics.

Hi all,
I am new to Electronic Resources and ER librarianship. My director is asking about what summer projects I am doing for Electronic Resources.
What types of projects do Electronic Resource librarians complete during the summer, fall and spring?
Are there recurring projects? If yes, what are these projects?
Thanks in advance for your responses.
