This probably doesn’t help, but I have noticed there is a difference when you look at vendor stats vs. PubMed Linkouts for example.  They’re measuring different things, but it may be helpful in showing how hard it is to compare or validate those stats.

Hello,

I’m looking for sample policies or documentation about usage data from 3rd-party vendors. We’re being asked to show how we independently verify this data in-house, but honestly, we don’t and can’t. We trust that the data we get from database vendors or Google Analytics is accurate, and invstigate potential anomalies when they occur.

We’ve supplied information about COUNTER and documents from select vendors about how they collect and report data.

Please let me know if you have questions. Any information is appreciated.
