The Georgia Tech Library (https://library.gatech.edu) seeks an innovative and experienced User Experience (UX) Librarian to support student success by using the best practices from UX to improve, manage, test, assess, and troubleshoot online learning for the Georgia Tech Library. In close collaboration with the Systems Librarian and Web and Discovery Management Librarian, they will optimize library resources and service discovery. They will create and co-create asynchronous instruction using evidence-based methods and train other content creators. In addition, the UX Librarian may perform information, multimedia, or data literacy instruction in a variety of modalities. The User Experience Librarian will serve as an Academic Engagement team member.

This is a 12-month faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours is supported.


Responsibilities

Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:

80% Librarianship

  *   Develop and conduct user tests, analyses, and other research methods designed to assess user experiences and needs, especially as it relates to online/asynchronous instruction
  *   Manage and update asynchronous instructional assets
  *   Develop and maintain internal style guides and UX resources for Georgia Tech Library employees
  *   Inform stakeholders of changes in UX and how it applies to the University System of Georgia and Georgia Tech
  *   Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to prioritize and implement recommendations
  *   Provide direct assistance and consulting to content contributors for web-related activities and when help is needed with creating, maintaining, or troubleshooting their web contributions
  *   Monitor, explore, and recommend emerging national trends in library user experience
  *   Collaborate with Team Lead for Instruction and Research of Academic Engagement to develop instructional materials, establish best practices, and stay current with pedagogical developments
  *   Collaborate with Academic Engagement team to create undergraduate-focused instruction materials across the curriculum
  *   Develop asynchronous tutorials to support library topics
  *   Supplement in-person instruction in Academic Engagement for multimedia, data, or information skills
  *   Advocate for tools or training to support UX or other endeavors connected to online learning
  *   Work with Academic Engagement colleagues to create and maintain departmental workflows and documentation to enable knowledge transfer
  *   Other duties as assigned

  *   According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute professionally through scholarship and service to the university and external communities.

10% Service

  *   Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library¿s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  *   Serve on library and university committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications

This position vacancy will be filled at the rank of Librarian II or Librarian III. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenuretrack-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines)

Librarian II

  *   Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
  *   Evidence of scholarship and/or evidence of service to the librarian profession.
  *   5 years of professional experience.

Librarian III

  *   Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
  *   A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating significant contributions to the librarian/archivist profession.
  *   10 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science or related degree in area
  *   5 or more years in user experience, preferably in an academic library
  *   Demonstrated experience with LMS (Articulate, Canvas, D2L, Moodle, others) and/or CMS (Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, others)
  *   Master of Education in Instructional Design or Online Learning, Bachelor of Arts in Design, or Bachelor of Science in Psychology
  *   Experience with discovery layers
  *   Experience with IRB principles
