For what it’s worth, we use EzProxy and I can access our AVON Sony Classics Pictures videos from my campus computer, including one copyrighted in 2018.  Doesn’t answer your questions.

Hello all,

We do not use Open Athens, but we have also experienced the issue with accessing SONY resources. In my testing, links worked fine on my phone but not via my computer while using a campus IP address. The support person suspected that the campus IP address was part of a VPN and that Sony’s systems were rejecting it.

I have shared that message with our institution’s IT department and am awaiting further information.

We here at EFSC have run into one video with this issue, Dana.  And I say “one” because it was brought to our attention by a faculty member.  As with other libraries, there will be more of these Sony videos in our instance of AVON that are not accessible at this point in time.  We too have a tech-support case in with Alexander Street Press about this.

Hoping for some insight on this problem.

Our library subscribes to Academic Video Online (AVON), and we also use Open Athens authentication. We’ve been receiving the message that SONY Pictures Classics titles are temporarily unavailable in AVON, non-Sony titles are accessible.
We’ve known that SONY Pictures Classics DRM does not allow viewing of their titles outside of the United States on AVON, and even though we’re located in Pennsylvania, Open Athens is a UK based product.

I’ve talked with AVON tech support with no immediate, definite answer on if Open Athens might be the problem. The request has been elevated to Alexander Street’s management team.

Has anyone else using Open Athens and AVON had this issue?
