[Eril-l] Alt Usage Stats

Electronic Resources in Libraries discussion list eril-l at lists.eril-l.org

Hi Ingrid,

I think it could also be worth asking the vendor what they consider a
"session" to be (i.e. 1 full day, 1 hour, etc.) to get some additional
context.
Did they also indicate if the "Hits from IP Address" are based on
particular *content *on their platform (i.e. # of Hits for a Journal or
page), or if it's measuring overall Hits on the entire platform? If they
didn't, I'd ask them that as well because if it's Hits for the whole
resource or interface, I'd interpret that as Platform-level usage (from the
comparison to COUNTER).

Also, if this specialized resource *by chance *utilizes OpenAthens, you
could peek at the # of authentications and see if you can find a
correlation. If you all use Ex Libris Alma/Primo and this resource appears
in the catalog, it could be worthwhile pulling up the Link Resolver usage
and looking at the "Number of Clicked Services" to see how much the
platform is being engaged as well. It *still *won't paint a major picture,
but it can show another perspective.

Good luck!
Erika
