Position Description

Butler University Libraries invite applications for an Electronic Resources Librarian, a 12-month, non-tenured (continuing appointment) position with the rank of assistant professor, reporting to the Head of Resource and Systems Strategies. This position provides leadership for the acquisition, support and analysis of electronic resources at Butler University Libraries, including managing and prioritizing expenditures on subscriptions and purchases of electronic content, as well as managing discovery and mediation of content in other acquisition models.  The librarian in this position communicates to and supports library faculty in their selection and use of electronic resources, troubleshoots user access problems, and provides guidance or training to students and faculty as necessary. This position also manages all required e-resource information and management systems, and has additional responsibilities for the management of print serial subscriptions.  As a library faculty member, the Electronic Resources Librarian also has liaison responsibilities to provide library instruction, collection development, and research support for a selected college or department(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  *   Primary responsibility for electronic resource management: reviewing licenses, arranging trials,  establishing and maintaining access, and renewing subscriptions;
  *   Working with liaison librarians in support of electronic collection development by providing them with information on usage, products, vendors, and options;
  *   Collaborating with staff to ensure a smooth workflow for the acquisition, renewal, and payment of electronic resources;
  *   Working with the Head of Resource and Systems Strategies to track and monitor expenditures;
  *   Maintain all appropriate information related to electronic resources entitlements across acquisition models and platforms
  *   Supporting configuration and usage of OpenAthens authentication
  *   Assisting with user education and outreach on general usage as well as limits of license-termed acceptable usage;
  *   Obtaining, analyzing, and disseminating usage statistics to support purchase and renewal decisions
  *   Managing print and bundled serial subscriptions through renewal process, and maintaining accurate holdings metadata;
  *   Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with vendors and consortial partners
  *   Serving as a liaison to an academic department and being responsible for course-based information literacy instruction, collection development, and assisting in promoting library initiatives with faculty.
  *   Participating in local consortium work and/or leadership (PALNI, ALI) relating to position responsibilities

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  *   Commitment to current awareness of trends and issues regarding electronic resources
  *   Understand licensing issues regarding access to electronic resources
  *   Understand issues regarding metadata in support of providing seamless access to electronic resources
  *   Ability to troubleshoot and resolve user access issues
  *   Use communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively in a collaborative work environment
  *   Use marketing and outreach skills to increase awareness and proper use of electronic resources
  *   Ability to work with statistics to analyze and assess electronic resource subscriptions
  *   Integrate use of relevant current technologies and tools into workflows and demonstrate their value to others
  *   Awareness of information literacy and library instruction issues, and a commitment to developing instructional skills
  *   Understand goals and objectives of the Library's collections policy and manage resources accordingly.
  *   Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and other intellectual property issues that pertain to electronic resource management
  *   Work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups, including students, faculty, and staff

Minimum Qualifications:
