Job Summary
The Dean of Libraries reflects and supports the University's mission and strategic plan and provides vision and direction as the Library evolves to support research, learning, and teaching. As the senior academic administrator for the Library, the Dean provides executive leadership and accountability for the successful management of all aspects of the Library's infrastructure, resources, programs, and services. The Dean of Libraries advocates for the Library within the University and the larger community, positioning the Library as the intellectual and cultural hub of the campus.
Responsibilities

  *   Oversees and carries out the mission of the Library; provides the vision needed to guide the evolution of the Library in alignment with the latest advances and trends in the field; assures compliance with university policies and support of the university mission and strategic direction.
  *   Directs development and implementation of Library goals, objectives, and strategic plans; manages assessment and reporting of Library data; supervises planning, development, and application of policies and procedures to ensure effective operations.
  *   Develops and oversees budgetary management of the Library; reviews, approves, monitors, and tracks expenditures within established limits; initiates and implements strategies to solicit funding.
  *   Analyzes staffing needs and directs the personnel activities of the Library, including recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of staff; assures responsible and effective leadership and performance of faculty librarians and Library supervisors
  *   Represents the Library on University committees and task forces and in external professional organizations and consortia; demonstrates the Library's value through outreach.
Qualifications

  *   Master of Library Science degree (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution; a doctoral degree is preferred.
  *   At least ten years of experience as a librarian with five years of increasingly responsible management or administration in an academic library.
  *   Commitment to fostering a positive, welcoming, and equitable environment for a diverse student, staff and faculty population.
  *   Evidence of innovative initiatives to improve library services, collections, facilities, culture, etc., in support of research and learning.
  *   A deep understanding of current trends, opportunities and challenges in information technologies, scholarly publishing, preservation, and the dissemination of knowledge.
  *   A strong record of professional service and scholarly achievement.
  *   Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with an emphasis on effective listening.
