Best of Core Forum webinar: Reinventing the Modern Library

Date: Thursday, February 2, 2023

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.



Description: Hear how one library undertook a major renovation project
during the pandemic to modernize its public spaces and respond to community
needs. We’ll take you inside the process of making the case for a
renovation, listening to our users, identifying our major design
objectives, and completing the project on-time and under-budget even with
many challenges thrown our way. We’ll also share how our community has
responded to the redesigned library, and highlight the ways we prioritized
accessibility and inclusion. Innovative design solutions for collections,
study and meeting rooms, experiential learning spaces, and outdoor
gathering spaces will be featured. Participants will come away with ideas
for innovative design solutions for the modern library and leadership tips
for managing a large scale building project.

Learning outcomes:

Participants will gain ideas and inspiration for designing a modern public
library.

Who should attend?

Library administrators, managers, staff, trustees interested in library
building design; architects and designers who work with libraries

Andrew Berman is the principal architect for Andrew Berman Architect.

Laura McGrath is the Deputy Director of Skokie Public Library.

Richard Kong is the Director of Skokie Public Library.
