This position organizes and supports all license negotiation activities related to the acquisition of materials or services paid for by the Libraries' collection budget. Job Description
60% LICENSE NEGOTIATION, TRACKING, AND RIGHTS MANAGEMENT

  *   Reviews and validates licensing checklists for all new licenses and ensures alignment 'with the Office of KU General Counsel policy and Library licensing guidelines, consulting with the Head of Acquisitions & Resource Sharing and other appropriate library staff.
  *   Negotiates directly with providers on terms of use, pricing, new licenses, and renewing contract negotiations for collection e-resources and services.
  *   Prioritizes and tracks status of all licenses in negotiation from start to finish and maintains or delegates record of license terms in various library systems.
  *   Supplies licensing and other related data (including Kansas Open Records data) to appropriate library staff and KU General Counsel as requested.
  *   Ensures existing license workflows run efficiently; monitors and maintains turn-around times, including coordination with KU General Counsel timelines.
  *   Ensures e-resource licenses are current for order or renewal. Determines whether review or renegotiation of more favorable terms is warranted.
  *   Leads implementation of new workflows and service initiatives related to license and rights management, which may occur as a result of legal requirements, departmental workflows, Library Strategic planning, or University initiatives or policy changes.

30% ADA COMPLIANT E-RESOURCES REVIEW AND RENEWAL

  *   *Reviews new and renewing e-resources and licenses for ADA compliance as required for collection resources, services, and products obtained for the Libraries.
  *   Serves as a resource in licensing, access, and rights management activities across the Libraries related to interpretation of ADA compliance in all types and formats.
  *   Investigates and compares publisher and vendor compliance with University policy, establishes and maintains effective publisher and vendor relations, and negotiates and documents terms, for all license requests or renewals.
  *   Determines and consults as needed the acceptable ADA compliance sections of all licenses, and refers and tracks those needing exception process referral.
10% SERVICE AND WORKFLOW MANAGEMENT, TEAMWORK ACTIVITIES, AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT

  *   Plays an active role within the department helping to analyze and identify efficiencies in daily workflows, creates documentation, and contributes to effective departmental information management and communication.
  *   Provides exceptional customer service in processing requests submitted to the department/unit, whether directly or referred from the department's single service point in areas of primary expertise, including by personal or departmental email accounts, IM, phone, or walk-in service desk, or referrals from other faculty/staff.
  *   Attends, participates in, and shares responsibility for effective functioning of department meetings, other team building activities, and individual meetings with unit head.
  *   Shows commitment to positive, solution-oriented problem solving.
  *   Supports and utilizes project management best practices where appropriate.
  *   Takes responsibility for learning and maintaining the skills and knowledge needed to accomplish their assignment and works with supervisor to prepare and follow a plan for skill development.
  *   Performs other duties as assigned, based on continual assessment of departmental staffing needs and the needs of the library.
