Core webinar:  Cataloging Virtual Reality Programming

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.



Description: Cataloging is an ever-changing platform that grows and expands
with challenges. As new libraries employ new technology and material types,
catalogers must invent and discover new ways to catalog and describe it.
One such challenge is virtual reality programming. Unlike video games, many
of these are all digital and do not have any type of physical format. So,
what is the best way to catalog them? This was the question that a
cataloger from Mississippi State University faced. She was tasked with
cataloging their virtual reality collection. During this presentation she
will share the answers she found to many questions during this process.
Including, what is a good way to catalog VR games? How do you catalog early
access games and those that are part of a bundle?

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the webinar, catalogers will have a better understanding of
how to catalog virtual reality programs for various headsets.

Who should attend?

Catalogers in all library types. While virtual reality programming has been
available for some time, it is just now being seen as something to add to a
library's catalog.

Presenter:

Assistant Professor Joy DuBose is Special Collections/Projects Cataloger at
Mississippi State University Libraries. Her interests include: emerging
trends in cataloging, such as those in digital technologies; cataloging
non-English language materials; cataloging older and rare materials;
training for emerging catalogers and those that are relatively new to the
field; and video games, virtual reality, and library technology. She
previously co-presented the ALCTS continuing education program Cataloging
Non-English Materials.
