We're hiring a contractor Metadata Librarian

to support the National Defense University <https://www.ndu.edu/> Library
at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C.

This position is a hybrid position with 2-3 days a week on-site at Fort
McNair.


Responsibilities

   - Create original metadata records for born-digital and digitized
   archival and special collections materials following current best practices
   and community standards
   - Oversee the work of library technicians including providing training
   in PTFS Knowvation and SirsiDynix Symphony Workflows and cataloging best
   practices and standards
   - Maintain library metadata and address metadata remediation needs to
   ensure library holdings are accurately represented and accessible using
   PTFS Knowvation, SirsiDynix Symphony Workflows, and Microsoft Excel
   - Administer large-scale projects in technical services like record
   maintenance and publication ingest by developing, implementing, and
   documenting workflows and policies to ensure materials are accessible and
   best practices are followed
   - Serve on the library’s Systems Team as a critical link between
   systems, information technology specialists, user experience teams,
   vendors, and public services staff to help oversee troubleshooting,
   development, and training of NDU Library’s systems and electronic resources
   - Conduct training programs, briefings, and reports on electronic and
   digital resource to library staff and university faculty, students, and
   staff


Qualifications:

   - U.S. Citizenship required
   - Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited library
   science program
   - 3 to 5 years of metadata experience, preferably in an Academic or
   Special Library setting
   - Strong attention to detail. Excellent ability to organize and
   prioritize work.
   - Ability to creatively troubleshoot and solve problems.
   - Strong public/customer service orientation.
   - Experience with PTFS Knowvation
   - Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony ILS
   - Experience with original and copy cataloging, authority control, and
   cataloging and metadata standards like Dublin Core, MARC21, and LCC/LCSH
   - Experience using the OCLC system and cataloging subsystem
   - Experience with Springshare LibApps, particularly LibGuides,
   LibAnswers and LibChat.
   - Knowledge of library technology protocols and information
   technologies, including internet and online database searching, and library
   systems software.
   - Knowledge of Microsoft O365 and Google Suite.
   - Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others to achieve
   project goals.
