Hi ERL-L:

   I am afraid that the article discussed here is the tip of the iceberg. I noticed in the middle of 2021 that articles were vanishing from Academic Search Premier (we do not get Complete). Not only the full text, but the citation as well. I have been keeping a running tally. Here are three. (Yes, the last one is one of mine, which is how I first discovered the problem.) I would be interested in seeing if they were present at other campuses.

  The ones I have found are not an Alma CDI problem. If you go to ASP Publications list, search by journal title, and tunnel down to the issue, the articles are missing from EBSCO. Alma still has the EBSCO AN number, but the citation to the article has disappeared from our instance of EBSCO.

We are having the same issue at Ball State University as Michigan, where that specific article is missing from vol. 19, issue 1. I was able to find the article in Summon, but when clicking on the link, received the message “no results found” for article number 24155237.

I searched my campus' Primo for the article title, and the article came up and linked to ASC just fine for full text (at Cal State East Bay).

I have found several articles not coming up in PRIMO searches from other EBSCO databases too (Business source complete).  We use ALMA and recently EBSCO did a revamp of their article linker linking syntax.  So, not sure if our issue of articles not showing up in PRIMO but being available at the vendor portal might also be linked to this change and other CDI issues. If you use ALMA, following might be of use to you.

I have some explanation for this behavior from a GURU.  According to her ‘Whether articles appear in Primo or not depends on whether there is content in Central Discovery Index (CDI)  that matches those articles. EBSCO doesn’t provide article citations to Ex Libris to include in CDI, so we are dependent on article citations provided by other vendors. If the articles aren’t linking, follow EBSCO’s instructions to access them a different way. If they aren’t coming up in Primo, we have no way to check all of the article content in CDI and no way to add article citations to CDI. If the articles aren’t coming up at all, chances are the citations don’t exist in CDI. You could search the database directly instead of rely on Primo”.

The University of Michigan does not have access to this article in our Academic Search Complete. I tried searching by article title as well as by journal name. This article appears in Vol. 19, Issue 1, pg. 43-54. We have four articles from that issue but not this one. The page numbers for articles we do have jumps from pg. 29-42 to 55-67, completely skipping over the pages for this article.

Several libraries in our group reported that the article "Ethics of Robot Servitude" in the Journal of Experimental & Theoretical Artificial Intelligence was missing from Ebsco's Academic Search Complete. After one library filed a ticket with Ebsco, the problem was fixed and the article appeared for that library, but other libraries were still not seeing the article in their own Ebsco subscriptions. Could a few libraries check on this article and see if it is missing/present in your own Academic Search Complete? Thanks!
