Those of you who use Chrome as your primary browser and use Gobi to purchase books/ebooks may find this tip very helpful.

You can add your own custom search engines to Chrome to search Gobi from your address bar. Here's how to add quick access direct Gobi searches by (1) title and (2) isbn:

  1. Go to chrome://settings/searchEngines - decide if you want to be able to use Space or Tab, or just Tab, within that bar to activate one of these custom search engines
  2. Click on the Add button
  3. Here's a sample for Gobi by Title,. You can make the first two fields whatever you like, but the URL needs to be exactly as given here:

  *   Search Engine: Gobi Title
  *   Keyword: gt
  *   URL: http://www.gobi3.com/hx/Falcon.ashx?location=basicsearchsubmit&type=BusyPod&basicsearchinputtype=Title&basicsearchinputmode=AdvancedAll&basicsearchinput=%s

  1. Here's the same but for ISBN search:

  *   Search Engine: Gobi ISBN
  *   Keyword: gi
  *   URL: http://www.gobi3.com/hx/Falcon.ashx?location=basicsearchsubmit&type=BusyPod&basicsearchinputtype=Isbn&basicsearchinputmode=AdvancedAny&basicsearchinput=%s

To use these, click on the Chrome address bar and then press Space or Tab (depending on your choice of setting), then type the keyword, eg gt:
[cid:57b14d6d-44d1-4ead-874d-d36017ff7d41]
Click on the Search Gobi Title and you will see:
[cid:f5646193-ac0c-4c25-855a-d9bd7524164f]
Then just type or paste in your title and press Enter.
If you aren't already logged into Gobi in another tab, it will take you through that first but it won't forget your search and will execute it as soon as you login.

The ISBN one is configured to let you put in multiple ISBNS separated by spaces and it will search all of those ("basicsearchinputmode=AdvancedAny"), which can be handy to paste in a list of ISBNs (but there is a limit - I know that 100 of them in a single search is slow but works, but 500 gives an error from Gobi).

Gobi offers other kinds of searches too, by author and keyword (mix of fields)
Here's the URL for author/editor:
http://www.gobi3.com/hx/Falcon.ashx?location=basicsearchsubmit&type=BusyPod&basicsearchinputtype=AuthorEditor&basicsearchinputmode=AdvancedAll&basicsearchinput=%s
And for keyword:
http://www.gobi3.com/hx/Falcon.ashx?location=basicsearchsubmit&type=BusyPod&basicsearchinputtype=Keyword&basicsearchinputmode=AdvancedAll&basicsearchinput=%s

By the way, you can make lots of these custom chrome search engines - I also have one for searching Canada Post tracking numbers, for example. Americans can do one for USPS and UPS tracking numbers.
