Core webinar: Transformational Change: a Newly Hybrid Workforce

Date: Tuesday, March 2, 2021

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

Description: What happens when a traditional university library goes
remote? At the University of Oregon (UO), the dramatic changes required by
the COVID-19 crisis offered UO Libraries an unprecedented opportunity to
transform, throw out decades of habits and workflows, and break down silos
and internal communication barriers. Prior to the campus closure, UO
Libraries was a traditional library system focused on high-touch, in-person
services.

The rapid switch to predominantly remote work highlighted many
organizational complications. In addition, the university considered the
Libraries mission critical, so many library staff employees continued
working onsite. As a result, the organization needed to facilitate a hybrid
workforce.

Emerging leaders created infrastructure to rapidly respond to faculty and
student needs, improve inter-staff communication, and quickly train
librarians in the development of online learning tools. This presentation
features four University of Oregon Libraries staff representing technology,
e-learning, subject specialists, and administration. Each will discuss
their role in leading and supporting organizational change through
collaborations created during the pandemic. Although these new venues have
created more transparency and equity, additional organizational challenges
have emerged. Presenters will discuss the work that remains to be done,
ongoing gaps in organizational knowledge, and continuing barriers to change.

Participants will reflect on their own institutional experience during the
crisis. How did the organization change or not change because of the
shutdown and pivot to a virtual organization? Participants will also be
able to identify opportunities in their own institutions to create new
forums which can move an organization to overcome its barriers.

Learning outcomes:

   -

Participants will identify opportunities in their own institutions to

   -

Participants will be able to identify how remote work tools can enhance
