Core webinar: Stacks Mapping Solution for a Better User Experience
Date: Wednesday, January 12, 2022
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.
This is the first session in a four-part series regarding Metadata &
Collections.
Description: As online access to library resources has become the norm,
browsing habits have changed. In order to respond to users’ needs, I
designed and developed a custom web application that provided a unique
library service by assisting users navigate stacks remotely. When using
this web app, users spent less time navigating the physical stacks
searching for specific items. Although this project was designed during the
COVID-19 pandemic, the time savings may be of particular benefit to patrons
who wish to minimize time in shared spaces.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this webinar, attendees will:
1. Identify key steps available to create a stacks mapping solution;
2. Discover innovative ways to identify their users' needs and engage with
them; and
3. Learn about how users’ experience influences the web app interface to
create a unique library service.
Who should attend?
Many libraries have had their budgets cut and implementing a new library
technology may be very expensive. My stacks library solution will serve as
an example to other small libraries that do not have the budget to purchase
an out-of-the-box web solution.
