[Eril-l] Communicating with the user community when cancelling electronic resource subscriptions

It is challenging. I asked a group of administrators for advice. I was told to try sending the messages to department chairs since they will send important information to their faculty, and it will get read, but campus-wide messages tend to get ignored. I have a big cancellation coming up, which will be a chance to test this approach!

While it doesn't address this question specifically, SPARC has a fairly new page on communicating about cancellations.

You don't often get email from wolfrd at fdu.edu<mailto:wolfrd at fdu.edu>. Learn why this is important<http://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
Hello,

We've been trying to develop a protocol for alerting our user community when the library is cancelling or discontinuing a database or e-resources subscription. We currently send notification via our faculty listserv, but it seems they're always surprised when a resource is no longer available. I was wonder what, if any steps, other libraries take to alert their communities, and have they been effective?

Please feel free to respond to me off list.

Thank you,

Rob
