The J. Murrey Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte is seeking a Collection
Strategist to lead the coordination for evidence-based content acquisition,
management, and assessment regardless of format or delivery platform and
will contribute to budget planning and management. The strategist guides
collection development and management decision making, designs assessment
strategies and analyzes quantitative and qualitative data to inform and
substantiate the strategic allocation of the Library’s collections budget
and current holdings, with a focus on innovation and open knowledge.
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a rapidly growing research
intensive University offering over 28,500 students a variety of
undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs in seven academic colleges.
UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library is a comprehensive research library with
over 1.9 million printed books, 930,000 e-books, over 400 databases,
approximately 75,000 journals and an annual budget of over $10 million.
UNC Charlotte is located in the largest city in North Carolina, a beautiful
southern city of 775,202 with over 1.5 million in the greater metropolitan
area, in one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Located on a
1,000 acre wooded campus, the University is accessible to the city's
performing arts and cultural and sports events and to recreational lakes.
Essential Duties:

Develops and leads collection assessment efforts to ensure alignment
with research, teaching and learning priorities and effective stewardship
of collections budgets.

Applies assessment techniques and tools to manage and assess collections
data to strategically allocate and prioritize the library budget and
resource needs.

Monitors general collections budget, oversees funding allocations, and
manages monographic approval plans, using Alma ILS and Alma Analytics.

Works collaboratively with subject librarians on collection development
priorities and initiatives.

Works with the AD for Collection Services to identify new and innovative
deals for library materials.

Works with the Head of Assessment to coordinate assessment techniques
and processes for library collections.

Provides collection reports to the Head of Assessment for inclusion in
mandatory national reporting surveys and local projects.

Monitors trends in scholarly communications and academic publishing.

Supervises the work of collection services faculty and staff.

Engages in professional service and scholarly contributions.

Participates in committees and faculty governance in the library and
campus.

Communicates effectively and positively with diverse groups of
individuals.

Completes additional projects as assigned
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an
ALA-accredited institution, or an appropriate equivalent
-
2-5 years working in collections or assessment in an academic or
research library.
Preferred Education, Skills and Training Experience:
-
Supervisory experience.
-
Experience with collection management and budgeting.
-
Experience with integrated library systems (i.e. Ex Libris Alma).
-
High level of proficiency with data management, analysis, visualization,
and presentation tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google
Slides, Tableau, and MySQL.

Strong data analysis skills; proven skills to gather, assess, interpret,
and present quantitative and qualitative data for varied audiences.

Knowledge of current, evolving, and innovative models of collection
development and scholarly communication.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and to create an
environment of mutual respect.
-
Demonstrated ability to contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion
efforts in the library.
-
Ability to work effectively in an organization in which change is both
necessary and constant.
