Core webinar: Crisis Communications for Libraries
Date: Wednesday, September 30, 2020
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.
Description: A crisis is any situation that threatens the integrity or
reputation of your organization. This could include funding reductions,
safety or security events or health issues at your library. In this webinar
you will learn how to create a Crisis Communications Plan so you can be
prepared and know how you will communicate in the event of a crisis. This
includes who will communicate, what they will say, what audiences need to
hear the message and how you will reach them. We will also discuss the
distinction between a Crisis Communications Plan and a Crisis Response Plan.
Learning outcomes:
In this webinar, you will learn:
• Components of a Crisis Communications Plan
• Who should be on your Crisis Communications Team
• Difference between a Crisis Communications Plan and a Crisis Response Plan
• Steps to take during a crisis
Who should attend?
Administrators and marketing/communications professionals at public,
academic or special libraries. Libraries have an obligation to be prepared
for potential crises and communicate clearly and effectively.
Presenter:
Cordelia Anderson, APR has more than twenty years’ experience creating
marketing and communications strategies for public organizations. During
her decade as Director of Marketing & Communications for Charlotte
Mecklenburg Library, her team earned the inaugural Library Journal Marketer
of the Year Award and two John Cotton Dana Awards. Cordelia now runs her
own consulting company. She is author of Library Marketing and
Communications: Strategies to Increase Relevance and Results, available now
from ALA Editions.
