[Eril-l] Link resolver transition - step by step instructions?

Another possible piece of the puzzle: If you use an image instead of a text link (in the platforms that allow it), do you need or want to change that image? If so, you'll want to have the image ready to go so that you can change it when you change the link resolver base URL on the provider platforms. Because different platforms have different size restrictions, it's a good idea to test it in a few databases. We ended up having to create two images because a few of the platforms we use couldn't handle our preferred image.

Good Morning,
Love the crowd-sourcing suggestion!
Another thing to think about is where to keep this information, such as necessary urls or ip addresses etc., internally and who needs to be made aware of its location. We're currently using a LibGuide that is not published to the public. We've also used a document on a shared drive.
Thanks,
Tonia

We've moved gradually to FTF after moving to EBSCO Discovery, so I know that I didn't do this in a comprehensive manner.

So shall we start crowd-sourcing this list? The examples here are for our library.

I. SetUp For EBSCO Full Text Finder:

1) Load or select your holdings into Holdings Manager

a. For each collection, make sure Links are assigned

                [cid:image001.jpg at 01D6B8F4.5A4E72F0]

2) Define the links that are going to display for FTF queries here:

II. MAINTAIN LISTS OF:

1) Which individual platforms point to your link resolver?
a. Consider a mailmerge email to the support departments of all of these.

Databases:
Alexander Street
Ency Britannica
Google Scholar
EBSCO
ERIC
Hein
JSTOR
                                Oxford
                                RefWorks
                                WorldCat
                                Worldcat discovery / firstsearch

                     ILL forms:
                                Worldcat
                                EBSCO

                     Ebooks?
                                Bloomsbury
                                Cambridge
                                DeGruyter
                                EBSCO
                                Project Muse
                                Proquest
                                Oxford

                      Ejournal vendors:

Obtain this list from EBSCO, serials vendors?

2) Google Scholar will take some extra work.

Hi All,
Changing link resolvers is rarely easy regardless of the products involved - something is invariably overlooked. Like updating the url in Worldcat or other 3rd party databases where you have activated your link resolver. If there is not a checklist that is product neutral, I'd like to help create one.
Best to all!

Hello Arabella,

I am in a similar situation. We just recently added our holdings information to EDS and we will be moving our link resolver from Gold Rush to Full Text Finder. There isn't really a checklist that I am aware of, however, I have been in contact with one of the EDS trainers who is helping me through the process, so I don't miss anything.

Besides the information that you mentioned, there is another step you might consider. You will need to confirm that EBSCO has added Full Text Finder to your EDS profile so that you will be able to order your linking properly (ours wasn't). We created a "local collection for Filter" that points to our Gold Rush linker (under the "SetUp/Maintain CustomLinks" option under "Customize Services"). From what I understand, this will need to point to Full Text Finder (not Gold Rush).

Also, in our case, our ILL custom link will need to be reconfigured as well because of the change.

I hope this helps! Too bad there isn't clear documentation from EBSCO.

Thanks!

[EXTERNAL SENDER. Only open links and attachments from known senders. DO NOT provide sensitive information.]

Greetings, Electronic Resource fans!

Middlebury is migrating our link resolver from 360 Link to EBSCO's Full-Text Finder. We have migrated our holdings information. I find myself now bewildered by all the things that need to happen because the link resolver is (or at least seems to me to be) so central in making so many things work beyond just the discovery system. (We moved from Summon to EDS a year or so ago but retained 360 Link as our link resolver.) I am aware that the base URL needs to be changed, generally in the admin interface, of A&I resources like Scopus, etc., as well as publishers' sites. It seems like there must be more to it, though.

I'm hoping someone in this group might be aware of a step by step checklist, or even a paragraph that describes what all needs to happen to complete a transition from one link resolver to another. Any assistance would be welcome!

Thank you!
