[Eril-l] Renaming of PsycINFO on EBSCOhost platform

Hello, ERIL-community!

The new names of the APA database products are as follows:
o    APA PsycArticles®
o    APA PsycBooks®
o    APA PsycExtra®
o    APA PsycInfo®
o    APA PsycTests®
o    APA PsycTherapy®

APA’s platform name has also been updated to APA PsycNet®. Prior to making these changes, we spoke directly with several key customer groups, including academic librarians, via focus groups and interviews. We learned there was not a clear association between APA and our database products. For example, many users did not realize that PsycINFO is an APA product.

We now recognize the timing of this change is not ideal, and we regret that we did not consider this in the rollout of the product name changes. We respect and support all libraries’ decisions to implement the name changes in the best way to continue to support your users.

We are happy to work with our customers to provide resources that may help communicate the name changes to our end-users. Please contact psycinfo at apa.org<mailto:psycinfo at apa.org> if you have any specific resource requests.

The one thing we're *not* doing is changing the name entirely on our A-Z database list. No one would be able to find these.

Instead I've added the new names in the Alternative Name(s) field -- we use LibGuides.

Are we capitalizing the name of the product after the word APA and following the Psyc?

Or, are we listing it as Absco does on the front page of each specific platform?

On the APA website, they're still listing the databases using the familiar syntax of "PsycALL_CAPS_SPECIFIC_PRODUCT":

- PsycINFO
- PsycARTICLES
- PsycTESTS
- PsyTHERAPY

I guess it's a mixture of reminding users that the APA produces the databases, strengthening the APA brand and highlighting that the databases are related to the APA output style for referencing.

I was wondering if anyone knows who or what was behind the recent change in the EBSCOhost platform with the name used for PsycINFO. Until this past week, EBSCOhost presented it as "PsycINFO." Now, it's labeled "APA PscyInfo." A similar change was made to PsycARTICLES (APA PsycArticles) and presumably other APA databases that one can get on the EBSCOhost platform.

Was this change requested by APA? Is the change also present on other platforms where you can get PsycINFO (such as ProQuest)?
