August 5, 2020: The National Information Standards Organization (NISO)
today launches its strategic plan for July 2020 - 2023, which focuses on
four key themes: Diversity and Inclusion; Trendsetting; Standards
Development for Content and Technology; and Community Development.

NISO’s strategic planning is led by its Board of Directors, working with
the Executive Director and staff. In May 2020, the Board approved a new
NISO strategic plan, covering the three years starting July 1, 2020, as
proposed by the Governance Committee, chaired by Board member Maria
Stanton, Director of Production, Atla. The plan takes account of NISO’s
expanded membership and broader remit following its 2019 merger with NFAIS,
which provides the organization with an opportunity to pursue new
objectives and goals aligned with its vision of a world where all benefit
from the unfettered exchange of information.

Board Chair, Peter Simon, Vice President, Product Management, NewsBank,
Inc., said: “On behalf of the Board, I welcome this new strategic plan,
which positions NISO well to succeed as a diverse and inclusive,
sustainable, community-focused organization in the coming years. Our thanks
to Maria Stanton for her leadership on this, and to everyone who helped
develop it. We look forward to reviewing progress at future Board meetings.”

NISO Executive Director, Todd Carpenter, added: “NISO is grateful to the
Board members for their guidance on our strategic direction post-merger,
and we look forward to working with them and our community to make this
strategy a reality. We will be sharing updates on our progress on a regular
basis, and warmly invite feedback from the information community on our
plans and individuals’ and companies’ participation in our work.”
