ALCTS webinar: How to Use Interviews for Assessment in Libraries
Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2020
All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.
Description: Do you need feedback from stakeholders at your library? Are
surveys not doing the job? Interviews are a more thorough and personal way
to get actionable information, but they can be complicated and
time-consuming. Learn all the steps needed to do successful interview-based
research, including how to get IRB approval, choose interviewees, create
questions, assemble recording and transcription tools, protect privacy,
identify themes/codes, and reach conclusions you can do something with.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
-
decide when interviews would be better than surveys
-
determine when Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval is needed and
be able to complete the necessary steps to get it
-
conduct successful interviews and turn them into discrete chunks of
information that can be acted on
Who should attend?
Library leadership and management, collections management, technical
services, reference and user services all need to get feedback from patrons
and stakeholders to be able to improve what they do.
Presenter:
Dan Broadbent supports the research and teaching needs for students and
professors at Brigham Young University in the fields of Physics, Astronomy,
Math, Math Education, Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology
and Cybersecurity.
