[Eril-l] [External] Demonstrating Library Impact During Crisis

We have Summon, and last year they released a new stat that shows clickthroughs from Summon to the different resources selected in the knowledgebase. I took a look at that yesterday and noted that many of the resources publishers released for free in the last couple of weeks that we hooked up beginning mid-March are already being discovered and used in Summon, and I'm thrilled about that.

I also looked at the stats for the libGuide where we've added extra information about new resources, particularly ebook resources, and use of that guide was really high - number 2 (number one for us? Historical Canadian Newspapers. Always).

If you have a pertinent LibGuide, take a look at the usage. Another librarian here ran the LibGuide stats yesterday. From March 16-31, our Online Courses guide has been the second most-used LibGuide in the past 16 days. 718 views, which is pretty good for our small liberal arts college.

(What's our #1 LibGuide? This very basic Birding Colorado Springs guide I threw together years ago. It consistently gets the most hits of all our guides. 918 views in the March 16-31 timeframe. https://coloradocollege.libguides.com/birding<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcoloradocollege.libguides.com%2Fbirding&data=02%7C01%7Cafry%40bgsu.edu%7Cfc86873327f54ecc7f0a08d7d64de2f6%7Ccdcb729d51064d7cb75ba30c455d5b0a%7C1%7C0%7C637213502320397412&sdata=lu6V2DgRieaeZCYdWRvHDv0Ff7ogUh%2FO0uWSX1f1OTo%3D&reserved=0>)

This email originated outside Colorado College. Do not click links or attachments unless you know the content is safe.

We are not only reporting usage, but also the extra efforts involved to support courses that had to suddenly go online. This includes acquisition of ebooks specifically requested for course readings, upgrades from single-user to multi-user copies or purchase of additional copies, special arrangements for online databases or primary sources that are serving as a substitute for originally planned in-person activities/research, increase in streaming license provision.

Hi Chris,

It might be more feasible for your systems person to track web page traffic. Some starting points could be usage to your library home page, the catalog, and LibGuides.

Best,

Anna

Good morning,

As academic institutions have shifted services to an online format, have any of you been asked to or taken the initiative to demonstrate the impact that libraries are having now? We were initially asked to provide weekly comprehensive e-resources usage reports, but until we implement our Alma Analytics service, even monthly reports probably aren't feasible.

Please feel free to share how you're providing evidence of your library's impact, whether that be through the usage of library services or e-resources.

Thank you!

Chris
