[Eril-l] Kanopy - login from off-campus

Hi,

This caught my interest since we too finally are starting to feel the Kanopy crunch. I have a private VPN that I can use on my work PC to check journal access for off-campus; it shows my computer as coming from a non-campus IP address. Just tried it and I was able to watch a movie on the VPN with no problem (film carefully chosen from the ones we leased recently). Since I discovered some journals NOT working via VPN this morning (argh), I consider it to be working correctly.

This makes me think I should write up a separate email to ERIL about what we're doing, in case it's of interest to anybody.

Hi Livy,

I've seen that, but I thought the account and sign in was necessary to watch Kanopy films on a mobile device.  Are you also needing to sign in to watch a Kanopy film off campus on a pc?

Today when checking access to Kanopy via our proxy server I discovered that users are prompted to login to or create an individual account affiliated with our college subscription. You can bypass creating an account but it is not intuitive and involves several screens. Does anyone know when this additional layer was added? I contacted Kanopy tech support about removing these additional steps. While I wait for Kanopy's response I  wanted to know if anyone has a workaround or have already created instructions or screencast.
