[Eril-l] web of science versus scopus

Hi,

There are published articles, white papers, and LibGuides that compare these two, sometimes with Google Scholar thrown into the mix.

Examples:

· Journal of Informetrics article: https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1808/1808.05053.pdf

· A paper in Oak Trust, the IR of Texas A & M<https://oaktrust.library.tamu.edu/bitstream/handle/1969.1/175137/Web%20of%20Science%20versus%20Scopus%20Report%202019.pdf?sequence=4&isAllowed=y> has pretty recent transparent assessment…

And for health sciences libraries that are heavily involved in providing systematic review services, we need Embase, not Scopus. However, our clinical informationists like Scopus…

Good luck!

Though we've done no formal assessment, we've only got WoS and not Scopus. In fact we've basically got ALL of WoS' offerings. Our Science Librarian would love to have both but the budget can't handle both and WoS seems to be the clear winner.

Hello fellow ER Librarians,

Our institution has just subscribed to Web of Science after years of demand. We are trying to assess the need for both Web of Science and Scopus. I am wondering if and how other institutions have dealt with this particular decision. For reference, we are a four year public institution with a focus in the sciences and social sciences and one doctoral program, and several masters program.

Thanks,
