ALCTS webinar: Wayfinding for Digital Preservation

Date: Wednesday, October 30, 2019

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 AM Pacific, noon
Mountain, 1 PM Central, and 2 PM Eastern time.

This webinar is part 3 of 3 in the series “A Compass for the Digital
Frontier <http://www.ala.org/alcts/confevents/upcoming/webinar/digital>.”

Description: As the extent of our digital collections continues to increase
and available resources for the maintenance of these digitized materials
remains stagnant, it has become increasingly important that we consider new
ways of approaching digital preservation. An assessment can help you
understand where you are, identify where you want to be, and identify
realistic steps for getting there. This session will: cover the digital
preservation assessment process, offer real-life examples of ways
institutions have used an assessment to find their path forward, and
provide further resources and tools for performing an assessment.

Series description: This series of three webinars is intended for
librarians eager to expand their collections' digital horizons. While trial
and error can be a powerful learning tool, digital preservation has common
practices and approaches that can provide a strong foundation for any
institution. This series will explore these practices and approaches,
preparing participants to: draft a cogent case for digitization, describe
the challenges inherent to digital preservation, and plan an assessment for
their digital preservation program. Each webinar may also be taken as a
standalone.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this session, participants will:

● be introduced the digital preservation assessment process;

● learn how a digital preservation assessment can benefit their institution;

● see how other institutions have successfully used assessment to improve
their digital preservation practice; and

● be able to identify resources to aid them in performing an assessment
internally and/or through a consultant.

Who should attend?

This webinar is intended for staff at libraries and cultural heritage
