Cataloging & Metadata Librarian
Western Carolina University

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will participate in planning and implementing digital projects including exploring new technologies in metadata applications; metadata schema adaptation; developing standards, policies and procedures; training library staff to create and apply metadata; and project management. The position supervises and directs the work of four staff members. The cataloging and metadata librarian will create MARC and non-MARC metadata. The ideal candidate will work well with diverse stakeholders, be able to manage complex workflows and participate in the creation of digital projects that have both immediate appeal and lasting significance.

This position will report to the Head of Content Organization and Management, but will work in close collaboration with other library units. The cataloging and metadata librarian will be involved in ongoing projects such as the WCU Oral History Collection https://www.wcu.edu/hunter-library/find/digital-collections.aspx and will also be expected to participate in the development of new digital projects. The position will also have responsibility for overseeing the creation of Special Collections finding aids in ArchivesSpace, and cataloging traditional library materials such as books and non-print resources.
