Hi all—I’m inclined to contact the Internet Archive to see what they may be able to offer, especially if Proquest might be willing to release these into the public domain.

I wrote to Sarah, but others may be interested in this idea If ProQuest no longer wants to support small local newspapers, perhaps they will allow options for the public good. It would be a shame to lose these local resources if the work of digitizing them has already occurred.
Is there a state consortia you can reach out to, or reach out to your state library, or even large university libraries within your state. Maybe they can help, or help get a grant or suggest other options? Under the circumstances, maybe this would be allowed by ProQuest to become a resource for your entire state/community?
Good luck! - Theresa

We are in the same situation here. 1T+ is something we don't have the infrastructure for to either store centrally for access or distribute electronically to our users.
We are figuring out what to do.

My library had been getting our local newspaper on digital microfilm via Proquest, and the paper is one that was not transferred to the new Recent Newspapers platform. So now we have files that need to be downloaded within the next 3.5 months before the content we paid for disappears forever.
The files, however, will take up an enormous amount of space—like, more than a terabyte. I’ve talked with library IT and they’re considering compressing the files to store them but also have concerns that this isn’t the best long-term storage solution.
So I guess my question to you, dear ERI-L subscribers, is if your library is in the same position, how are you handling this?
