Librarian and Visiting Assistant Professor
Job Information
The University of Mississippi Libraries strive to provide innovative services to our students, faculty, and staff.  In support of the ACRL Diversity Alliance Program<http://www.ala.org/acrl/issues/diversityalliance> this position seeks to increase the pipeline of qualified and talented individuals from historically underrepresented groups and follows the structure of their residency positions. This two-year, non-tenure track, appointment provides an opportunity for a recent graduate librarian to develop expertise in a functional area and contribute to an initiative of strategic importance to the Libraries. Visiting assistant professors are fully integrated members of the library faculty performing as entry-level librarians.
This position will provide experience in academic librarianship through a broad range of activities designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in future library positions and contribute fully to the profession. The new faculty member will report to the Assistant Dean for Public Services who will provide oversight and consistency throughout the experience. During the first year the faculty member will participate in teaching, reference, and liaison activities and rotate through the library's departments. Each rotation will build understanding of the library's mission, role and structure. During the second year, the faculty member will specialize in a functional area of his or her choosing, and develop a significant project that supports one of the library's strategic goals.
 The selected applicant will:
*         Work creatively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness within the Libraries and the campus;
*         Gain experience in a highly collaborative work environment with access to key decision makers throughout the organization;
*         Work with a dedicated group of University of Mississippi librarians and campus leaders to coordinate and guide professional development, research, and scholarly activities;
*         Serve on library committees as needed;
*         Participate in the ACRL Diversity Alliance network and join the ACRL Residency Interest Group to share ideas, resources, and best practices;
*         Have opportunities to attend professional conferences.
Minimum Education/Experience
*         ALA accredited Master's degree awarded by the start of appointment.
*         Demonstrate a commitment to fostering and promoting the values of diversity and inclusion.
*         Possess a strong interest in academic librarianship;
*         Willingness to support research and instruction services to a diverse clientele;
*         Work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment and to take initiative and work independently;
*         Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment;
*         Excellent written and oral communication skills;
*         Support and understand the educational mission of a public research university
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary is $43,000 with additional professional development funding available.  Benefits include employer-paid portions of medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents. In addition, the UM retirement program includes an employer contribution.
