ALCTS e-Forum: eBook Management: What Works, What Doesn’t

Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Managing ever-increasing numbers of ebooks has always been a challenge. The
rapidly changing landscape of the ebooks market complicates this, but also
brings opportunities to improve our management systems. What works, what
doesn't? Come and join us to share your experience and hear others!



This e-Forum will focus on the following topics:

   eBook troubleshooting
   -

   Tools to support eBook management


Moderators

Heather Shipman is Cornell University Library’s eBook acquisitions and
management specialist, coordinator for the eBook ordering team, and a
member of the e-resources troubleshooting team; she gave two ER&L 2018
presentations in these fields. She advocates for increased patron privacy
and decreased data collection of individuals’ e-resource usage, and will be
part of a related panel at the Charleston 2018 conference.

Xiaoyan Song is the Electronic Resources Librarian at the Monographs Unit
in the Acquisition and Discovery Department at NCSU Libraries. She leads
the library’s ERM Committee and is a member of the license team. She enjoys
troubleshooting eBook access issues and is passionate about exploiting
tools to improve e-resource workflows. She has given presentations on
eBooks and ERM tools at several conferences including NASIG, ER&L and
Charleston and has several publications on eBooks.

What Is an e-Forum?

An ALCTS e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters
of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The
e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email
address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate
with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two
to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free.

How to Register

You must register your email address to subscribe to or access an
electronic discussion list on ALA's Mailing List Service. Once you have
registered for one e-forum, you do not need to register again, unless you
